Tools & calculators
Run the numbers yourself first
Rather than build our own, we point you at all 23 of ASIC's Moneysmart calculators — the independent ones — sorted by the question you are actually trying to answer.
Read this first
Every calculator linked on this page is free, government-run and independent of us. We have organised them and written down what each one is good for; that is the whole of our contribution.
Maintained by the regulator
ASIC updates the assumptions behind these tools as contribution caps, tax rates, preservation ages and Age Pension thresholds move. A calculator we built ourselves would be out of date the first year we got busy.
No interest in the answer
A calculator on an advice firm’s site is a lead magnet. Moneysmart has nothing to sell you, which makes its retirement projection the more honest one to put in front of you.
Nothing reaches us
They run on moneysmart.gov.au, so your figures never touch our website and we never see them. Bring them to us if you want them looked at, and not otherwise.
These are general information tools, not financial advice. They know only what you type in, and nothing about your tax position, your entitlements, your family or how you would actually behave in a bad year. Use the output to frame a question, never as a decision.

If you open only one thing on this page, make it the retirement planner. The other two are what people reach for next.
The full library
Grouped the way the problems actually arrive, rather than the way a government website has to file them. Every card opens on moneysmart.gov.au in a new tab.
Super & retirement
Balance projections, contribution strategy, access ages, and what an income stream actually pays once you stop working.

Budgeting & saving
The surplus figure every other plan is built on, plus what that surplus turns into if you leave it alone.
5 calculators
Home loans & debt
What the debt costs, what an extra repayment saves, and whether the structure you are in is the right one.
7 calculators
Tax, investing & insurance
The three places small percentages quietly compound into large numbers over a working life.

The honest limitation
It can only tell you what arithmetic follows from the assumptions you gave it. Which assumptions are reasonable for you, what to change, and in what order; that part needs someone who knows your situation.
Common questions
Because Moneysmart is run by ASIC, the regulator, and its assumptions are updated whenever tax rates, contribution caps, preservation ages and Age Pension thresholds change. A calculator on an advice firm’s own website has to be maintained by that firm, and it has an obvious commercial interest in the answer. Handing you the independent one is simply the better tool, and you should be a little suspicious of any adviser whose calculator always concludes that you need an adviser.
Get started
Bring the numbers you just ran and we will tell you what they actually mean for your situation, including the parts these calculators deliberately leave out.
